msX™  : BIOCAPTIVA’s DNA binding technology

At the core of BIOCAPTIVA is our msX™ technology

It’s ability to coat large surface areas of varying size, shape, form and density allows the technology to be widely scalable making it suitable for a broad range of applications.

msX™ coated surfaces bind DNA natively from plasma, whole blood and urine while resisting protein biofouling, allowing large sample volumes to be processed without addition of buffers or other, often toxic reagents. With msX™, sample volumes of litres are easily processed whilst maintaining full sample integrity, either for return to donor or for further downstream analyses such as measurement of protein biomarkers.

msX™ binds only free DNA in solution, and does not bind cells or proteins, DNA contained in vesicles or exosomes, or DNA which is otherwise inaccessible for direct binding. The cfDNA captured is therefore extremely pure providing a high signal to noise ratio for analysis. The sequence-nonspecific capture mechanism allows the sample to be used for whole genome sequencing.

Once bound, DNA can be stored on the msX™ for up to a month at room temperature before processing, advantageous where sample processing cannot take place immediately, such as where sampling is done in remote locations, in locations with limited facilities, or in at-home collection kits.

DNA is eluted and processed using common laboratory methods for DNA clean-up

These methods are highly scalable and are suitable for adaptation to automated and parallel workflows.

The end product is a clean and pure cfDNA sample in a buffer suitable for all downstream laboratory applications such as absorbance, fluorometry, electrophoresis, qPCR, and Sanger sequencing.
